Mellorater Team
In 2018 Dr Bidda Jones and Professor Paul McGreevy created a checklist to help their undergraduate students apply the Five Domains Model in a live animal welfare assessment exercise. In 2021, Paul McGreevy and Cristina Wilkins proposed its use in making end-of-life decisions in an article published in Horses and People magazine. We immediately agreed the checklist should be updated to the most up-to-date, 2020, Five Domains Model for Animal Welfare Assessment and Monitoring. In 2022, the team engaged with Assoc. Prof William Billingsley (a scholar in Computational Science) who is interested in how technology shapes animal welfare decisions. Together, they have created the 18 statement checklist and built the online Mellorater app.
